Monumental Sculpture & Installation

Noirmontartproduction proposes guidance and support for artists and their galleries, museums, public and private institutions, companies and local communities in the organization of their art production projects, beginning with the creation of monumental and complex works.

The production of such works is indeed a very heavy burden. It is expensive, time consuming, technically complex and requires versatile human resources.

In 1998, Jérôme and Emmanuelle de Noirmont, still recent gallery owners, launched into productions that were very complex (Split-Rocker by Jeff Koons) and numerous (the spectacular sculptures of Brigitte Nahon, David Mach...) and so learned very early the difficulty of working on several projects of this type at the same time.

With the unique expertise gained during these experiences and the many others that would follow over 20 years of gallery management, Noirmontartproduction can now manage all phases of the creation of monumental works on behalf of its partners, most notably the galleries; from the project’s initial conception to its technical and financial feasibility studies, from its production to its final completion.

The conception of the work

Working with an artist on the design of a project as sensitive and important as a monumental work requires specific human qualities. With more than 20 years of close proximity with the artists, both professional and amicable, Jérôme and Emmanuelle de Noirmont can approach this crucial phase of the birth of a project with all the necessary psychology, considering the challenge that this represents for the artist.

The technical study

The creation of sculptures and installations made today increasingly use sophisticated, new materials such as advanced and innovative technology, sometimes experimental or not yet available. Noirmontartproduction proposes to assist the artists in the often tedious research where it is necessary to contact companies, industrial research units, design offices and technical experts from other areas of expertise (electronics, audio-visual, biological, scientific…). Whether it is the search for material or the study of the manufacturing process, Noirmontartproduction strives to find the right balance between the creation idealized by the artist, the technical complexity and the production budget, all while integrating the constraints related to the presentation and final installation. For all works created from organic materials or electronic equipment, there is also the concern for the sustainability of the work and its future conservation.

Financing

The financial study of an artistic production is not just limited to figuring out the production costs. It must also include the costs of presenting and installing the work, including any assembly and disassembly, the costs of transportation and storage as well as insurance and sometimes added maintenance costs related to the obsolescence of certain works. Beyond this first analysis, the deciding factor in the feasibility of any project is its financing. Noirmontartproduction provides individualized financial assistance for each project, offering a method and specific terms for financing, taking into account the particular characteristics of the project and its duration. Depending on the amount of funds required and the nature of the project, this financial contribution may be provided by equity or through external funding.

Production

In addition to technical and financial studies and the search for suitable suppliers, Noirmontartproduction proposes to monitor the production alongside the artist in order to control its different stages and to ensure that the creation of the project is within the agreed budget and time frame. Each production does indeed have its uncertainties associated with the use of innovative materials, new manufacturing processes or advanced technologies, unforeseen scheduling problems, etc., and these must be dealt with on a daily basis.

The final completion

All production, especially for an installation, is not truly completed until the first exhibition of the work. Noirmontartproduction also manages this final phase of the project including the installation and the final building on the planned exhibition site, ensuring the best possible presentation of the work in its environment. An installation on a public space is subject to legally binding laws that must be studied beforehand. For all perennial creations, the gallery that represents the artist retains control over the distribution and sale of the work.
